The title of this volume is a perverse novel by Pauline Réage, which caused a scandal when it first appeared, giving eroticism a place in modern literature. In this volume, it is adapted into a comic book, thus becoming the first comic book in the history of contemporary bibliophilia and also the first book entirely printed in silkscreen. Guido Crepax’s comic-book plates are reproduced in folio format, as large as the originals (50×35 cm), and are “read” alongside a subtle anthology of Freudian analyses. Roland Barthes, Alain Robbe-Grillet, and Maurizio Fagiolo Dell’Arco present this graphic “joke,” which has now entered the “hells” of major libraries. 900 copies, numbered and signed by the artist.
