The first edition (1979) of this book was created out of the need to investigate the relatively unknown world of our most precious textile fibres – cashmere, alpaca, mohair and camelhair.
The interest shown in the first edition amply justified its publication. The richness of the photographs and the fast-moving text stimulated the imagination of people not even involved in the field, and supplies of the book were soon exhausted.
The need then arose for a second, more complete edition, and in this volume we have, in fact, added two more chapters which are dedicated to Merino wool and to Angora rabbit hair.
The third edition (1989) responds to the necessity of having a japanese version of this book.
